Police are still investigating the final hours of a 22-year-old student who was stabbed to death by her boyfriend with a knife and screwdriver and then dumped in a lake.

Adrianna Gardikioti, who was studying media and communications in the northern town of Kastoria, was murdered by Stathis Efstathiou, 35, last week. It has been reported that Gardikioti was stabbed 78 times with a screwdriver and a knife. Sometime after dumping her body, Efstathiou then posted an apology on Gardikioti’s Facebook page:
“I am sorry and I apologise. Whatever happened cannot change anymore. I loved you. I love you and will continue to love you. One whole year together and from now on forever to eternity, together. Bon voyage and I am coming along with you. As is, for an entire year we never kept apart from each other. I am coming for you, my baby.”

Efstathiou was later arrested by police after the car he was driving crashed into a telephone pole, in what some say was a suicide attempt. Efstathiou – who was also arrested in August for possession of child pornography – is now being treated in hospital for his injuries, while over 1,400 people have condemned him on his Facebook wall.
