Intrepid explorers and adventurers James Castrission and his friend Justin Jones – known as Cas and Jonesy – spent New Year’s Day at the South Pole.

After 62 days of travelling in the cold, they finally made it to the South Pole were they were a long way away from the normal summertime New Year’s Days they are used to sharing in Australia. They have 28 days to travel back to their start point so they can make the journey back to Australia and enjoy a hot shower and a cool beer. Crossing the Ice is a world first journey an unsupported polar expedition that sees them traversing from the Antarctic rim to the South Pole and back.

The travellers will journey 2200 kms on skis, sled-hauling all provisions essential for three months survival in one of the harshest environments on the planet.
