Museums and ancient sites across the country are to close on Friday and reopen on Monday morning as guards and other staff stage a three-day walkout over unpaid weekend wages.
The Culture Ministry staff, who have held several similar strikes in recent months, are pressing the government to pass a law allowing them to get weekend pay as existing legislation does not foresee reumeration for work done at weekends.
The action by the ministry staff has prompted vehement protests by tourism bodies which complain that one of the country’s few healthy business sectors is being undermined.
