The 2012 Semaphore Greek Cultural Festival will be held this weekend and give everyone an opportunity to experience our fantastic Greek culture, with plenty of traditional food, music, sweets, drinks, dancing and rides for the kids.

The festival – held on the Semaphore foreshore – showcases and celebrates Greek culture and heritage within South Australia’s broader multicultural context. Many generations of local volunteers, including grandparents, parents and children, dedicate endless hours to make the festival a success from the initial planning to cooking traditional Greek food and sweets to serving hundreds of visitors attending the event. It is this community and family spirit that underpins the essence of the festival.

In 2012, the festival will celebrate 33 years of Greek community involvement and celebration at the Semaphore foreshore.

MCing the weekend will be comedian George Kapiniaris, who will keep the crowds entertained on Satuday and Sunday. And bring your competitive spirit as there will be a hairy chest competition, loukoumathes eating competition, olive spitting competition, zorba till you drop and yiros eating competition. A live band will also be playing Greek music daily from 4:00 pm.

The 2012 Semaphore Greek Culutural Festival will be held Saturday 14 to Sunday 15 at the Semaphore foreshore and admission is free. For more info and an event guide visit semaphoregreekfestival.com.au/2012/
