The Pyrrhic Cultural Association of SA is an establishment for the learning of traditional dances from Greece and Greater Asia Minor, with a specialisation in Pontian dance and culture.
Dancers not only learn about traditional dances from each region but also why they were danced and the meanings behind the steps and the costumes worn. In addition to speaking in English, Greek is also spoken and in traditional Pontian dialect. Pontian instruments such as the kemenche — also known as the lyra — and the ntaouli drum are available in classes to enhance and encourage the learning of the music and rhythm.
Classes are held every Monday from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm at Adelaide Olympic Soccer Club, Perth St, Ferryden Park. We welcome dancers of all ages and our classes are free. For more information, contact Sophie Darzanos on pyrrhic.sa@gmail.com or 0423 297 243.
