Current Australian Federal Police commander and for boss of the Purana taskforce Gavan Ryan told the Supreme Court that he sometimes swore on affidavits in the presence of an officer to be used to obtain search warrants.
Whilst giving evidence earlier this week in accused drug lord Tony Mokbel’s change of plea case, Ryan said he would have sworn one in every five affidavits on his own. He said he did this in order to get the job done and not to deceive the course of justice. He said that he did not believe it was common practice to not swear on affidavits, even though the court had been told otherwise during this case.
The application hearing will continue on Thursday.
