Cypriot tennis star Marcos Baghdatis has breezed through the first round of the Australian Open defeating German player Benjamin Becker.
26-year-old Baghdatis slammed home winning 6-1, 7-6(5), 6-2 in yesterday’s match in Melbourne.
Baghdatis broke Becker three times in the opening set, taking the set after 28 minutes. Becker refusing to give in battled back and broke serve in the second to force a tie-break. But after Baghdatis nailed the second set, and with Becker’s morale low, he took out the third and final set 6-2.
The 44th seed will now face 21st seed Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland.
