The Hellenic Dance Group in Norwood is a non-profit organisation which focuses on promoting and carrying on the traditions of the Hellenic culture through dance.
The main focus of the dance group is to educate Greek, non-greek and multicultural communities of South Australia about the Hellenic culture through Greek Dance performances and teaching Greek dances to young people.
The group teaches Greek dance to young children, youth and adults from the ages of 5 to 35. Students learn traditional, folk and modern dances from all regions of Greece including Central Greece, Thrace, Peloponnesuss, Thessaly, Epirus Ioanian and Aegean islands, Pontos, Macedonia, Cyprus, Asia Minor, Naousa, Cappadocia and many more.
The dances are mixed with original choreography to create unique performances which are visually entertaining. The performances range from dinner dances to festivals and other special events and are highly successful.
Practice times are seniors (12 to 35-year-olds) on Saturdays at 11:30 am to 12:30 pm or Tuesdays at 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. All lessons are free and anyone can join, no matter how much or little they know of Greek dance. All practices are held at the Prophet Elias Community Hall in Norwood, at 87 Beulah Road, Norwood.
