A very new, very small – very much fold-up car – Spain’s answer to reducing road stress and pollution – has been unveiled before it hits major production next year.
The “Hiriko” or translated from the Spanish meaning “urban”, is an electric two seat vehicle that folds up like a child’s pusher. The small electric motors are located in the wheels which also have the capability of turning at right angles to facilitate sideways parking in very narrow spaces.
The “Hiriko” concept was developed from an American idea by a collective of seven small Spanish (Basque region) companies known as Hiriko Driving Mobility (HDM) which demonstrated the 1.5 metre long prototype vehicle for the media in Brussels last week.
The Spanish manufacturers are negotiating with a number of European cities to assemble the ultra small cars which can run 120 kilometres on a single recharge and sell for around AUD$15,000.00
Many large cities around the world have shown interest in the small urban electric transport vehicle, including Paris, London, Berlin, Barcelona, San Francisco, Hong Kong, Boston, Dubai and Brussels.
