Meteora, the film by Greek Colombian director Spiros Stathopoulos, will be competing for the coveted Gold and Silver Bears at the 62nd Berlinale.
The film will be up against another 17 titles at the Berlin film festival that will run from February 9 to 12. Starring Theo Alexander, (known for his work on television supernatural drama True Blood) and Tamila Koulieva, Meteora is a story set in the 12th century about a forbidden love affair. Set in the famed monastic community of central Greece, the film looks at the relationship between a Greek monk and a Russian nun.
The 33-year-old director, who is currently based in Los Angeles, has expressed his desire to work in Greece. Stathopoulos’ second feature film PVC-1 caused a buzz in Cannes in 2007, gaining the attention of international film buffs.
