Greek international striker Georgios Samaras is determined to help keep his club Glasgow Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premier League today when his side entertains Inverness at Parkhead Stadium.
The in-form Greece striker had another solid performance midweek as his side hammered Hearts 4-0 to go four points clear of arch-rivals Rangers at the top of the table.
Goals from skipper Scott Brown, Victor Wanyama, Joe Ledley and Gary Hooper extended Celtic’s domestic winning run to 16 games and Samaras is looking to maintain that form and stay ahead of Rangers.
“We’re here because we had a good run and we want to keep it going. We’ve won games and turned a lot of things round this season and we don’t want to take our foot off the gas.
“From the start of November until now we have had some great games and performances and some bad games, which we still managed to win.
“We now have some difficult games but we believe we have the quality to go on and win the next game.”
The odds on Celtic winning the treble have shortened in recent weeks with Samaras’ side reaching the final of the Scottish Communities League Cup where they will play Kilmarnock at Hampden next month.
Before that, the Hoops travel to Dundee United in the quarter-finals of the William Hill Scottish Cup.
The former Manchester City striker admits he is enjoying the hectic period of activity as the season gears up for a frantic finale.
“I prefer to have a game every two or three days – like Saturday, Wednesday, Sunday – because for me, I feel I have a better rhythm,” he said.
“The weeks are shorter and you have more games and you don’t realise how fast the time is going and you’re focused all the time.
“And your mind is always working to be ready for the next game. I prefer that to having six or seven days to prepare for the next game. From November until now, our games have been every two or three days, it also shows how fit we are that we have managed to handle this schedule.”
