An education company has been set up to support Greeks seeking to study in Australia.
The consulting company Let’s Go Study Australia, has been set up by directors Vasilis Mitroulas and Costas Pehlivanis, due to the increase demand for Greeks wanting to study abroad.
Traditionally, Greek students have been studying abroad in counties such as England, Canada and the United States, but this company is offering Australia as an option but are offering support and act as an advocate on behalf of the student.
“Our objective is to find a course to best suit the students needs,” says Mr Pehlivanis.
“We are saying to a student who wants to come here we will find you a course to suit your budget, we will find you a course to suit your objectives.”
A holistic service, Mr Pehlivanis says that the support for the student whilst studying in Australia is their main concern offering them accommodation advice and also support for finding work whilst studying.
“We are setting up the job club where we help students with advice on their CV’s, interview preparation, how to search for jobs in Australia, and we are encouraging Greek businesses to get in touch with us and work with us to advertise jobs.”
Both men will travel to Greece next month to attend the International Education Expo on March 3 and 4 as the only Australian representative to encourage Greek students wanting to study abroad to consider Australia as an option. They will also be running seminars on March 7 in Athens to showcase their services and discuss with students ways in which the education consulting company can help them.
Mr Pehlivanis told Neos Kosmos that one of the driving reasons this company was established was to ensure new arrivals receive the correct information before migrating to Australia and to ensure their arrival in the county is a smooth transition.
“We want to offer the right information from the people and help them get here without facing difficulties.
“Once [the students] are here to study, we are going to provide them ongoing support,” he says, “so say for example, once they are here studying English and they want to move into carpentry or business, we are always going to be here to offer support to the student while they are here in Australia,”
He says that the company’s intention is to eventually have an Athens office to offer ongoing advice and to also get the first initial students of the program offer support and advice to future students who endeavour to go through the process.
As two Greek Australians, born to migrant parents, they feel they are in a better position understand and empathise with the plight of the immigrant Greek.
“We understand how difficult it is for people leaving their homeland and leaving their family behind as we’ve lived with that as children of immigrants.”
