It seems fewer German and British tourists will enjoy the Greek sunrise this year, a prospect which is pushing the government to seek the assistance of public relations companies.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Culture and Tourism Minister Pavlos Geroulanos said German bookings are down some 30 percent compared with the same period last year, while those from Britain have dropped around 10 percent.

This has led the Culture and Tourism Ministry to seek funding from the Finance Ministry for the recruitment of PR firms, with the aim of reversing the negative prospects regarding the country’s two biggest markets for tourists.

However, Geroulanos added that visitors from so-called new markets, such as Eastern European states, are expected to increase.
