The Victorian Government last week launched the first all-terrain vehicle to be made in Australia, reaffirming the nation’s advanced automotive manufacturing industry.
Minister for Manufacturing, Exports and Trade, Richard Dalla-Riva, reached an agreement between Tomcar Australia and Victorian component maker MTM Auto, to manufacture the specialist off-road commercial utility vehicle at its Oakleigh factory.
The Tomcar project will create 50 direct and another 300 spin-off auto industry jobs. 5000 Tomcars will be produced over the next five years to supply the farming, mining, tourism, Emergency Services and Police personnel with versatile off-road utility vehicles.
The announcement coincides with the Australian Automotive Week and the Australian F1 Grand Prix where the Tomcar will go on display at the Australian Automotive Industry’s Showcase at the Grand Prix meet.
