Writer and director Anthony Maras will be ready to answer any questions you have on his films The Palace and Azadi at a special screening event held by Palace Cinemas next week.
Award winning film The Palace is set in Cyprus 1974, and is about a Cypriot family who flee advancing Turkish forces and take refuge in an abandoned Ottoman-era palace.
When a young Turkish Cypriot conscript comes face-to-face with the family in hiding, he is forced to confront the brutal reality of war and his role in it.
Shot on location around the United Nations Green Line in Lefkosia, The Palace brings together an international cast and crew including Erol Afsin, Tamer Arslan, Daphne Alexander, Christopher Greco and renowned Turkish-born actor Kevork Malikyan of Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade fame.
Azadi follows the plight of an Afghan father and son who flee the oppression of the Taliban regime only to encounter a bitter struggle for freedom in the Woomera Detention Centre.
Screening of both movies will take place on Monday 16 April at Chauvel Cinema, Cnr Oxford Street and Oatley Road, Paddington. The live question and answer sessions with Anthony will take place directly after.
Tickets are $15 for general admission and $13.50 for movie club holders. For more information on the event and to buy your tickets online, see: www.palacecinemas.com.au/events/thepalaceqascreeningwith
