Nicholas Kotsiras, Minister of Multiculturalism and Citizenship, has used a speech in parliament to pay tribute to singer Dimitris Mitropanos who passed away this week aged 64.

Mr Kotsiras pointed out that Mitropanos’ death was a sad loss, not only for Greece but the Greek community and added that they have “lost a great musician and a great entertainer, but above all, a gentleman who inspired thousands. He will be missed”.

Mr Kotsiras made reference to Mitropanos’ contribution to Greek music, especially his leading force in the revival of rembetika and traditional Greek folk.
Mitropanos passed on Tuesday after suffering pulmonary edema caused by a heart attack.
