Australia is set to negotiate with Greece over a recipricol agreement for working holiday visas fto allow both citizens of their countries to be able to travel and work freely in the country.
The President of the Greek Orthodox Community of New South Wales, Harry Danalis, visited the minister last week to discuss the agreement for working holiday visas.
“The Minister was positive to this possibility and promised to get in touch with the Greek government in regards to this issue, as well,” said Mr Danalis.
According to the Australian Federal Minister for Immigration and Citizenship Chris Bowen, the visas would best suit young people between 18 and 30 who want to combine their travels to the reciprocal countries with work.
“Australia has reached similar agreements with 15 more countries,” said Mr Danalis, adding that the working holiday visa was discussed between both countries around ten years ago but Greece disagreed on it as they only wanted Greek citizens only to be able to travel to Australia and not vice versa.
“Greeks did not accept the reciprocity of the agreement,” commented Minister Bowen, “but let’s hope that things will be different now.”
