Champion Greek kickboxer Vasilis Kakarikos, was welcomed with open arms by the Greek community of Melbourne, whilst visiting Australia for a major kickboxing tournament.
The kickboxer – who holds a world title and is one of the best in the lightweight division in kickboxing – was honoured by the Greek Community of Melbourne and Victoria (GOCMV) in a dinner last weekend.
Bill Papastergiadis, president, GOCMV, told Neos Kosmos that the community likes to honour the achievements of overseas Greek guests – from all disciplines including: academia, arts, culture and sports – and to also make them feel at home and comfortable whilst visiting Melbourne.
“We thought it was appropriate to have a dinner for him and honour his work he has been competing now for 7-8 years and has a huge reputation overseas,” said Mr Papastergiadis.
“We took him out for dinner to meet him, his manager and find out more of his story, and welcome him to the city of Melbourne and the Greek community of Melbourne.”
