Every preschooler would have to study a foreign language if the coalition wins the next election, said Tony Abbott in his budget reply speech.
Mr Abbott stated that within a decade, 40 per cent of year 12 students would be studying a second language under a pre-election target set by the opposition leader.
He said further that Australians should not rely on people of the world speaking English.
“The Coalition believes that starting in pre-school every student should have an exposure to foreign languages,” he said.
He also said that this change would be generational as they coalition would need time to mobilise and train foreign language teachers.
