Federal Member for Calwell Maria Vamvakinou’s campaigning to expand the Cancer Council’s National Bowel Cancer Screening Program has finally come into fruition.
The Federal Labor Government is expanding the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program to ensure all 50, 55, 60, 65, 70 and 74-year-olds receive a free Bowel Cancer Screening Kit.
The $50 million, four year roll-out will help ensure Bowel Cancer is diagnosed and treated early. Bowel Cancer kills around 4,000 Australians every year, more than any cancer, apart from lung cancer.
In March, Ms Vamvakinou made a made a speech in Parliament calling on the Government to expand the program to include the mandatory testing every two years for those aged 50 and over.
Ms Vamvakinou told Neos Kosmos that she is very proud that her campaigning for this important cancer screening be made available has become a reality.
