The Greek Glenti in Darwin was blessed with wonderful weather as more than 35,000 people enjoyed a Greek party in the top end.
The weekeend’s crowds enjoyed traditional Greek dance and music and the food was a definite star of the weekend – from the sizzling souvla to the Greek School’s loukoumatha’s to the two and a half tonnes of octopus eaten.
“It was a great atmosphere,” the president of the Greek Orthodox Community of Northern Territory, John Nicolakis, told Neos Kosmos.
The Greek Glenti is now in its 24th year and Mr Nicolakis says the community has already begun working on its 25 year anniversary next year.
“We are organising a fireworks display and we hope to have more than one band participating,” he says promising next year is “going to be even better”.
“Every year it’s getting bigger and bigger and we have to grow with it.”
