Four young bilingual journalists will have the chance to learn the ropes through a new $20,000 scholarship program.
The program, announced by Minister for Citizenship and Communities, Victor Dominello is funded by the NSW Liberals and Nationals Government
Contrary to commercial media, ethnic media is flourishing in NSW, and the grant aims to build on that strength.
Mr Dominello believes the grants will allow aspiring bilingual individuals to chase a career in journalism.
“It’s a great chance for journalists early in their careers to develop their skills and learn from NSW’s experienced ethnic media editors, producers and reporters,” Mr Dominello says.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to get a taste of life as a journalist and to get your foot in the door of a thriving industry.”
The NSW Government will fund four scholarships for a six-month term, each worth $5000.
Ethnic media outlets will be able to apply to the Community Relations Commission for scholarship funds, and scholarship holders will be chosen by a selection committee.
