Independent Senator Nick Xenophon wants longer bans imposed on misbehaving casino gamblers following an incident in which a women received a three-month back after she left her son in a car so she could gamble at the Adelaide Casino.
The woman initially tried to take her 11-year-old child to the casino but she was stopped from entering. Less than an hour later she returned without him and officials found her son alone in the car near the casino’s valet entrance.
However, Senator Xenophon said that the three-month ban should be longer.
“It also should come with conditions requiring gambling counselling and treatment for someone who’s the subject of such a ban so that it doesn’t happen again in the longer term,” he said.
“In severe cases the ban should be increased significantly, 12 months at least, depending on the circumstances
