Penny Marathon 2012 – organised by Greek Australian sisters Eleftheria and Despina Prodromou to raise money and awareness for stray animals in both Greece and Australia in support of the stray animals of Greece and Australia – is set to take off today.
The sisters Eleftheria and Despina Prodromou, and a bunch of willing good samaritans, will run 42 kilometres from Marathon to Athens on Monday 16 July.
The Penny Marathon 2012, as named by the sisters after the stray dog Penny who captured their hearts, will take place during one of the hottest days of Greek summer, which demonstrates the determination of the girls to help our less fortunate furry friends.
“This marathon is a bold choice for us, but we had to be bold to get the message across,” said the girls of the marathon.
Their fundraising efforts are continuing until the day of the marathon, with so far almost half of their $5000 goal being pledged. Donations can be made www.everydayhero.com.au/penny_marathon_2012.
