The New South Wales Government has created an ethnic media mentoring project to assist budding journalists and communication students who wish to work for a bilingual publisher.
The project will assist in maintaining the ongoing presence and development of ethnic media reporting in NSW, and provide opportunities for bilingual individuals to be mentored by skilled professionals to develop their bilingual journalistic skills in the ethnic media including online publications.
Submission of the expressions of interest to the 27th of July 2012.
In your submission, you will need to clearly outline what experience or training you are able to offer a young person who is wishing to pursue a career in journalism, through this scholarship programme.
Once the media organisation is selected to receive government funding for the scholarship it will be invited to submit the name and qualifications of a potential scholarship holder.
Please address your expression of interest to the Chair of the Commission, Stepan Kerkyasharian, at P.O. Box A2618, Sydney South, NSW 1235.
Mr Kerkyasharian will be in contact with those who have already expressed their interest, in case more information is required.
To be eligible, the publisher of a newspaper printed at least once a week, or a full time broadcaster in a community language with an ongoing record of publishing or broadcasting in a community language and a capacity to provide mentoring.
The person being mentored should be a current student, or recently completed student of journalism/communications with bilingual ability in English and the relevant community language.
Both the publisher or broadcaster, and the scholarship recipient, must be based in NSW.
