NSW Hospitality Minister George Souris has completed stage one of an audit on Kings Cross, that intends to stamp out the violence in the district.
The audit – which was created in response to the fatal attack on teenager Thomas Kelly – is to be completed in two stages, with the first one already completed. The first stage saw auditors visit licensed premises in the Kings Cross area to inspect incident registers and cross check them with CCTV footage. The time line for the second audit is still to be announced by Mr Souris.
“The audit has concluded in terms of the inspection of registers and gathering of incident registers and the performance of responsible service of alcohol,” Mr Souris said.
“The second phase of the audit is to compare that factual information with police records and with CCTV footage.
“I don’t know how long that will take but it’s not going to take forever.”
Mr Souris said any failures to report incidents identified by the audit would be considered by the Office of Liquor and Gaming with penalties such as restrictions in trading hours to be imposed on venues who have breached safety regulations.
