MP Anthony Albanese is in Cyprus this week to discuss transport, infrastructure and joint business opportunities.
The Minister for Infrastructure and Transport is hoping to strengthen bilateral relations and is his second trip to Cyprus.
On the agenda, Mr Albanese told Neos Kosmos that he will “talk with his Cypriot counterpart about the opportunities both countries can collaborate on, like the protection of ocean environments and maritime safety”.
The Minister is a long term supporter and advocate of justice for Cyprus and continues to attend commemoration services in his electorate.
His visit follows the then Foreign Minister’s Steven Smith visit in 2008.
On the agenda will be a meeting with the Cypriot Minister for Communications and Works, Efthemios Flourentzou. He will also call on President Demetris Christofias, Foreign Minister Dr Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis and Head of AKEL (Progressive Workers Party) Andros Kyprianou during his visit.
In a statement Mr Albanese said “Australia and Cyprus share a close and longstanding relationship that is underpinned by strong people-to-people links and joint membership of the Commonwealth”.
Australia is the second largest Cypriot community with over 80,000 migrants living in the country.
He arrives in Cyprus on Friday 27 July.
