Greek Orthodox churchgoers around Australia raised a total of $320,000 for Greece.
The fundraiser Greece Appeal was organised by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia and occurred during a Sunday service on 10 June this year. Churchgoers dug deep and donated money to help the mother country.
According to an article in the Greek Orthodox Archiodiocese’s newspaper To Vima tis Eklissias, the money has already been sent to the Archdiocese of Greece and it will be distributed all over Greece. It will be going to the Greek soup kitchens organised by the churches.
In New South Wales, the faithful donated $129,483.75; in Victoria they donated $139,091.26; in South Australia they donated $26,113; and in Queensland $11,230.
$90,000 of funds raised will go to the Archdiocese of Crete.
