A view of Constantinople is the theme of four consecutive workshops in August for those in Sydney.
The cultural heritage of Asia Minor and Constantinople is showcased with the seminars, topics ranging from traditional music, dances, cuisine and iconography.
The workshops offer practical sessions and performances, and are on every Sunday of this month.
The next workshop on 12 August will be an iconography workshop that includes a talk, demo and practical sketching sessions with Andrew Boucas of Mosacion.
The 19 August workshop entitled “A taste of Constantinople” includes a cooking workshop with four meze plate tastings by Maria Benardis of Greekalicious.
Artistic director of Arts Diaspora, the organisation responsible for putting together the event, Mrs Kyriaki Koumparouli, says the seminars are all about showcasing the best of the region.
“The seminars aim to present four of the many aspects of the Constantinople, Asia Minor and its heritage: the classical and traditional folk music, religious painting/art, politics, cuisine and dances of the region,” Mrs Koumparouli said.
The series of seminars are presented by Arts Diaspora and are part of the Hellenic Heritage Series of 2012.
The last session on 26 August will include performances and sessions on traditional dancing.
All seminars are in English and tickets are $15 to $30 for certain seminars.
All seminars will be conducted in the coastal Millenium Centre, General Holmes Drive, Brighton Le Sands (near Bay Street), NSW.
