Are you relevant? is the question scores of ethnic community leaders from around the state will be asked this week when they attend the Community Relations Commission’s Annual Symposium – the stock take of community relations in New South Wales.
The two day gathering will devote the first whole day to youth issues, discussed by youth leaders.
The Youth Day will tackle a broad range of challenges faced by young people including bullying, how to get heard and how to express social concerns.
The main day of the symposium will also deal with youth issues from a broader community perspective as well issues surrounding government-community cooperation, emerging communities, effective media relations and crime minimisation.
A highlight of the day will be the launch of two important publications dealing with religious instruction in the Australian context.
The two works are: My Religion, Our Country: A Resource for Islamic Religious Education in Australia and Serving in a New land: An Orientation and Appraisal for Religious Workers Coming to Australia.
The Chair of the Commission, Stepan Kerkyasharian, said today: “These two publications will set important benchmarks for the teaching of religion, focussing on the interaction of religion with Australian law.”
The two-day symposium will be held at the Park Royal Hotel Parramatta on Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 of August.
