An Australian citizen of Greek heritage was arrested in Athens on Thursday accused of being connected with the murder of five men in Ayia Napa, Cyprus last June. His name has not as yet been released. Neos Kosmos understands the 27-year-old man originates from Melbourne.

He stands accused of conspiring with others, to murder five men on June 23 – four of whom worked as security guards for Famagusta businessman Phanos Kalopsidiotis.

Three other men suspected of being contract killers remain in police custody in Cyprus, after being arrested earlier this month on suspicion of planning to murder Kalopsidiotis.

The Greek-Australian in custody is suspected of gunning down five men on June 23 in the heart of Ayia Napa’s nightclub district.
Four of the victims were security guards for Kalopsidiotis, who police believe was the target for the attack.

Three Cypriots aged 28, 33 and 35, and two Romanians aged 25 and 33, were killed in their black BMW after being shot near the popular Red Square bar.
