Greek-Australian businessman Spiros Alysandratos has recently seen his Victorian company Consolidated Travel Pty Ltd enter the world top 100 Travel Agents companies. The Global Top 100 Analysis – Travel Agents industry recently ranked Consolidated Travel as 46th in the world.

Such success is a far cry from Alysandratos’ beginnings in Australia, where he arrived with his parents and siblings after leaving their home island of Kefalonia, Greece. They left their home during difficult times with no money or possessions, but looking for work. They worked hard, and never forgot their home country, Greece.

From these humble beginnings, Spiros Alysandratos now owns a company that has been included in an analysis of each of the largest companies in the world in its industry.
This also makes the company one of Australia’s highest grossing companies. Indeed, recent data released by BRW has revealed that eight Greek-Australian owned companies, including Consolidated Travel Pty Ltd, have found themselves amongst the Top 500 private companies in Australia.
The two best ranked Greek-Australian owned companies appear amongst top 100 private companies, with Consolidated Travel at 59th place and New South Wales’ Moraitis Group at 97th place.

According to released data, Consolidated Travel’s total revenue comes to $854.71m, while Moraitis Group’s total revenue was $526.88m in Personal, Household Good Retailing industry.
Other companies amongst the Top 500 are: Georgiou Group (WA, $450.00m, construction), Kailis Bros (WA, $428.51m, Personal and Household Good Wholesaling), Doric Group (WA, $177.00m, construction industry), A Raptis & Sons (Qld, $103.26m, Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing), MG Kailis (WA, $97.39, Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing), and Poulos Bros (NSW, $92.83m, Food, Beverage, Tobacco Manufacturing).

Total revenue of this year’s Top 500 private companies is 1.7 per cent less than last year, at $217.6 billion.
According to BRW, a high level of productivity in top private companies is contributing to their appeal. For the third year in a row, the ratio of sales revenue to employees for the Top 500 has been about $550,000.
Superannuation companies dominate the top spot, with industry giant AustralianSuper to retain its title as the biggest private company, with 24,000 employees, and $7,436.01m total revenue.
Amongst the states, Victoria has performed best, with 159 companies among the top 500, and total revenue of $82,251.33m.
