Deborah Goulopoulos has been jailed for five years for a secret sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy and has been placed on the sexual offenders register.
The 52-year-old pleaded guilty in the Victorian County Court to maintaining the relationship with the teenage boy for two-and-a-half years which ended a day before his 16 birthday.
The mother of two began the relationship with the victim – who was a friend of her sons – in 2002.
County Court judge Carolyn Douglas said Goulopoulos had deliberately groomed the boy with pornography, drugs and alcohol before the first sexual encounter.
“You were acting as if you were the same age as the complainant and his friends,” she said.
The victim, who cannot be named, earlier told the court the sexual relationship had made him feel sick.
He described Goulopoulos as a predator who preyed on helpless children and said on some occasions she had slept with him while her children were asleep in the same room.
The victim told the court in a statement that Goulopoulos destroyed his life.
Judge Douglas said she had to send a strong message to community about the “morally reprehensible and inappropriate crime”.
“In a civilised society adults are responsible for the sexual integrity of young people,” she said.
Goulopoulos was sentenced to a maximum of seven years imprisonment. She must serve five years in custody before being released.
