Over 100 people attended the inaugural cocktail party put on by the Youth Committee of the Peloponnesian Confederation of Melbourne and Victoria last Friday night at their premises in North Melbourne.
Representatives of the seven regions of the Peloponnese all enjoyed welcome speeches and statements made with thanks to the Council of the Peloponnesian Confederation of Melbourne and Victoria who support the youth committee.
The idea of a youth committee was first conceived by the Peloponnesian Council in 2011 to enable it to identify promising and upcoming members of the Australian Hellenic community that would take on the mantle of leadership into the 21st century.
The current Youth committee, drawn from across the board of the seven Peloponnesian regions is made up of the following members: Jenny Krasopoulaki, Jim Saisanis, Sophia Dedousis, Chrissa Kanatas, Tina Varasamis, Pauline Haralabopoulos, Helen Halkias, Stacey Halkias, Eleni Dedousis, and Joanne Karabatsos. The main role and vision of the youth committee mirrors that of the Council in that it reinforces ties amongst all Peloponnesian states with programs that cover areas of Hellenism in Australia with the view to engage future generations.
It also hope to unite and promote all seven regions of the Peloponnese to support and improve the links created by previous generations to the next through business networking, teacher student exchange, language and technology advancement.
The roles of the Youth Committee, Peloponnesian Confederation of Melbourne and Victoria are: Chairperson: Jenny Krasopoulaki; Vice Chair Person: Jim Saisanis; Secretary: Sophia Dedousis; Treasurer: Chrissa Kanatas; Committee Member: Tina Varasamis; Committee Member: Pauline Haralabopoulos; Committee Member: Helen Halkias; Committee Member: Stacey Halkias; Committee Member: Eleni Dedousis; and Committee Member: Joanne Karabatsos.
