Melbourne Victory midfielder Gui Finkler has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury over the weekend.

Scans have revealed the extent of Finkler’s knee injury suffered in the first half of Wednesday’s A-League clash with Western Sydney Wanderers at Parramatta Stadium.

It has been confirmed that Finkler, 27, ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and while there was no other damage to the knee, he will require a full reconstruction.

The Brazilian will be out of action for the rest of the season and possibly for a whole year.
Finkler, one of the most popular players in the competition, was inundated with messages of support after the devastating news broke this week.

”Thanks again for the posts,” he tweeted.
“Today is the worst day in my life. But I will be here supporting MVFC … and I will be back as soon as possible.”
