Melbourne Victory star striker Marco Rojas has committed to the A-League club for rest of the season, but beyond that his future is uncertain.
The star 21 year-old is off contract in April and there are concerns he could head abroad after a breakthrough A-League season.
While overseas clubs could come knocking during the January transfer window, Rojas wants to remain a part of Victory’s 2012-2013 campaign.
“I’m going to be here until the end of the season,” the Kiwi international said ahead of the Week 15 clash against Wellington Phoenix on Saturday.
“I’ve started the season and I want to be here until the end.”
Rojas said he would work out his future with his father, who is also his manager, but wants to concentrate on his form.
“I’ll have a look how the season ends and how I feel and I’ll speak to my dad and the club and we’ll go from there,” Rojas said.
Victory, which this week lost Brazilian midfielder Gui Finkler for the season after a serious knee injury, will be relieved to hear that big money from overseas won’t be the only factor in Rojas’s decision.
“Last season was disappointing and this season’s been going alright so far but I want to make a proper impact before I think about going anywhere else,” Rojas said.
“I’m not really too worried about the money.
“It will be about developing my football first and then the money is a bonus.
“None of my choices will ever be revolved around money.”
He attributes his striking form after a disappointing 2011-12 to his toughest ever pre-season under new Victory coach Ange Postecoglou.
“He’s one of the best coaches in Australia and for me it’s been great and he’s helped me a lot,” Rojas said.
“For the whole team, we’re playing some good football.”
Postecoglou will intensify his search for a signing this month after the loss of Finkler, who was leading the competition in assists before rupturing his ACL in the 2-1 loss at Western Sydney Wanderers this week.
In the meantime, Isaka Cernak, Jimmy Jeggo or Billy Celeski are all contenders to replace him.
“Finkler’s injury is a huge blow for us,” Rojas said.
“He’s created a lot of goals and been key to our attacking plays.
“I’m comfortable one of them can come in and do the job.”
