Queensland boxer Michael Katsidis has been forced to pull out of a fight in Melbourne on February 21 and is set to retire on medical advice.
Katsidis, who made a name for himself as one of the toughest Australian fighters, now looks to have had his final fight.
The 32-year-old is said to be devastated by the news after undergoing a pre-fight MRI scan in his new base of Sydney, where he had been training with Johnny Lewis in an effort to reinvigorate his career after a series of brutal losses.
“Unfortunately I have had to pull out of my fight on Feb 21st,” Katsidis wrote on his Facebook page. “I have a story to tell and I will be telling it, but right now I need to talk with my family, management as well as medical staff.
“Thanks for your support and understanding.”
At the peak of his fame he gave boxing great Juan Manuel Marquez a fight to remember in 2010 in Las Vegas. He knocked Marquez down early before being stopped in the ninth.
