Thessaloniki based dance group Voiaki Estia will perform at this year’s Enosi Uniting Cultural Festival to be held at Federation Square in Melbourne on Saturday 9 March.
The festival, held by the Hellenic Cultural Council – Enosi, as well as the Casa D’Abruzzo Club, Hungarian Community Centre and Abriza Brazilian Association, combines various multicultural groups for a day of cultural harmony and traditions.
The event will also feature talented musicians from Greece including Kozanitiki Fanfara. The group make regular appearances on television and accompany traditional dancers on stage and at cultural festivals around Greece and Europe. Greek singer guitarist Fedon Ferentinos will also perform on the day along with the Pontian Community of Melbourne and Victoria as well as OPA Dance Group. MasterChef contestant Jenny Papakostas will also do a cooking demonstration at 1:15 pm.
Voiaki Estia was established in 1958, with the aim to promote retain and cultivate the region’s rich traditional culture through dance, song and music. Voiaki Estia perform dances from all parts of Greece, but more specifically from the region of the Voio highlands which is situated in Western Macedonia in the Kozani and Grevena areas. Guided by Kostas Tsonis, a member of UNESCO a talented and passionate folklorist, teacher and dedicated dance instructor – the performers cover all facets of their inherited cultural background.
The Enosi Uniting Cultural Festival will be held at Federation Square, Melbourne on Saturday 9 March from midday to 8:00 pm.
