Screenings of Greek films at the Hellenic Club of Canberra are back for 2013, kicking off with the very funny Mia Treli Treli Sarantara.
The film centres around a merry widow in her 40’s, who falls in love with a young and charming violin player. She starts to do all the mad things one would expect in such a situation. Her siblings, on the other hand, try to convince her not to for reasons of social status, but also in order to better their excellent financial situation they would rather she marry an older rich person.
In the beginning she does all she can to trick them. However, when her tricks are uncovered she decides to live her life the way she wants and to not allow anybody to interfere with what will make her happy.
Her siblings recognise that she is right and give her their blessings to follow her violin player on his journey to Italy, which will bring her happiness.
The film is in black and white, in Greek with English subtitles and runs for 85 minutes. It has an incredible cast led by Rena Vlahopoulou and Andreas Barkoulis.
Mia Treli Treli Sarantara will screen in the Aegean Room of the Hellenic Club of Canberra, Matilda Street, Woden, on Sunday 24 March at 3:30 pm. For more information visit www.hellenicclub.com.au/
