It was Sydney FC’s game last weekend, with a 1-1 draw against top team Western Sydney Wanderers.

The Derby was packed with 20,000 fans and the teams didn’t disappoint. Both were left with 10 men, after Sydney skipper Brett Emerton and Wanderers defender lacoppo La Rocca received red cards.

Alessandro Del Piero started the scoring at the break, pushing Sydney FC 1-0 and securing his thirteenth goal for the season. The home side used their numerical advantage, with Shannon Cole coming back to haunt his former club with a stunning free-kick to share the spoils.

But, when the Wanderers were hoping for a clean win to claim the Premier’s Cup, they will have to wait till next week. Tony Popovic’s side are still in the box seat to claim the silverware and will secure it with a draw in their final game against Newcastle next weekend
or if Central Coast fail to beat Adelaide on Sunday.

A draw for Sydney keeps them in fifth position but their finals fate will be sealed in a do-or-die clash away to Brisbane Roar on Thursday night.

The draw is the first time the Wanderers have dropped points since December 2012, leaving them six points ahead of second-placed Central Coast.
