Perth Glory are into the A-League finals after securing sixth spot with a 1-1 draw with Adelaide United at Perth Oval last weekend.
Although Adelaide was on level points with Melbourne Victory, it still kept its fourth place after Victory won 3-2 against Wellington Phoenix.
The Central Coast Mariners beat a 10-man Melbourne Heart outfit 2-1 in Gosford to show positive form heading into the finals.
Goals to Danny McBreen and Mitchell Duke was enough to secure the win for a team that made six changes, with the Heart’s Richard Garcia’s second-half strike proving mere consolation for the ninth-placed Melbourne side.
Perth should have gone ahead when Ryo Nagai was dragged down in the box by Cameron Watson, but the Japanese forward’s penalty was tipped onto the post and wide by Eugene Galekovic.
But Adrian Zahra gave the Glory the lead when he toe-poked Steven McGarry’s cross home and put the hosts 1-0 up.
The match looked settled at 1-0 for the remainder of the match, until Jake Barker-Daish popped up in the box to prod home his first goal of the season.
Perth’s Danny Vukovic was then on hand to palm away a stinging Dario Vidosic free-kick deep into injury time to keep the scores level.
