They say that people can die of a broken heart and, given the bond of sisterhood, that could be a fitting explanation to what happened to the three sisters of the Kiritsis family – Theodora Georgoula, Paraskevi Kiritsi and Stavroula Tsakiri.
Within 17 days, all three sisters died.

Theodora passed away on 29 March, aged 96, followed by her sister Stavroula, aged 94, on the 31 March, and followed by the eldest sister Paraskevi who passed away on 13 April at the age of 97.
The three sisters were born in the village of Afroxylia, Nafpaktos. Paraskevi immigrated in Australia in 1957, Theodora followed in 1964 while Stavroula was living in Greece in Rio of Ahaia.
“All of them were tough nuts to crack,” says George Kiritsis, Paraskevi’s son.
“There was eight children in the family and except my mother and aunts who died, all others have a good health, even if they are 80 years old,” adds Nick Georgoulas, Theodora’s son.
They left behind 10 children, 22 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Until their last breath, the three sisters were talking to each other frequently, laughing and grumbling sometimes, recalling their childhood in Afroxylia.
“The three of them had strong personalities,” says Mr Georgoulas. Both cousins say that the sisters are keeping each other company in heaven.
All three sisters had a good life and will remain in their family’s memory.
