On the occasion of the Commemoration of 72nd Anniversary of the Battle of Crete, the Deputy Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff (HNDGS), Vice Admiral Alexandros Theodosiou, accompanied by Ambassador of Greece in Canberra Haralambos Darafanos and commander Georgios Pelekanos, held a series of meetings at the Australian Department of Defence.
Deputy Chief of Defence met with Deputy secretary Brendan Sargeant, counterpart Vice Chief of the Defence Force Lieutenant General Mark Binskin, Chief of Navy Vice Admiral Ray Griggs and First Assistant Secretary for international politics, Chris Birrer. Mt Theodosiou also visited the Australian Defence Force Academy, where he met with the Academy Commandant, Commodore Bruce Kafer.
In meetings with the executives of the Australian Department of Defence, the Deputy Chief of Defence Mr Theodosiou had the opportunity to reaffirm cordiality which governs relations between Greece and Australia at all levels, and to discuss possibilities for further cooperation.
More specifically, Mr Theodosiou had the opportunity to further strengthen his relationship with Chief of Navy Vice Admiral Ray Griggs, whom he recently met in Greece on the occasion of the latter’s recent visit to Lemnos, for the celebration of ANZAC Day.
Australian side has shown a positive attitude to the prospect of sending naval vessels in Lemnos and Gallipoli on the occasion of the celebrations in 2015, as well as to possible cooperation with Greek Navy in small scale technical exercises in the Aegean.
