On Saturday, Repsol Honda Team’s Dani Pedrosa – winner of the last two Grands Prix in Spain and France – claimed his first pole position of the campaign, heading up the front row from Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo and Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso. Sunday afternoon would prove to be completely dry as the race was held in bright conditions, marking the fifth round of 18 in 2013.
Lorenzo blitzed the opposition and won the Italian MotoGP for the third consecutive year. Championship points leader Dani Pedrosa came in second and British rider Cal Crutchlow third while local rider Valentino Rossi crashed out.
This was Lorenzo’s second victory of the year and sees him advancing to second place in the Riders’ Championship, 12 points behind Pedrosa, as Marquez’ DNF this time around relegates him to third.
