Central Coast Mariner’s Mathew Ryan’s move to Belgian heavyweights Club Brugge is complete, with the club gaining a “sizeable” transfer fee for the goalkeeper.

The Mariners also managed to secure a sell-on clause in the transfer of the promising 21-year-old goalkeeper to Club Brugge.

Central Coast said the financial aspects were a win for the A-League club, given Ryan’s contract expired on Saturday.

“Today is a proud day for our football club,” Central Coast’s group general manager Peter Turnbull said in a statement on Friday.

“Club Brugge are one of the most respected clubs in Europe. They have a long, proud history and a strong record, like us, of taking players to the next level in their careers.”

Turnbull described the transfer as “sizeable”.

The fee was reportedly $180,000, and the on-sell clause also gives the Mariners up to 20 per cent of his next transfer fee. After flying to Europe earlier this week for medical tests, Ryan inked a three-season contract with the former club of Socceroos Frank Farina and Paul Okon.

Club Brugge’s sporting director Arnar Gretarsson said Ryan, a dual A-League Young Footballer of the Year, has “huge potential”. “Despite his young age he has gathered a lot of experience and he has been elected twice as best goalkeeper of Australia,” he said in a statement.
