The Australian Ambassador to Greece, H.E. Mrs Jenny Bloomfield honoured Greek Australian legal and medical professionals in a dinner at the Australian residence in Greece.
The dinner on June 6 was in conjunction with the 14th Greek Australian International Legal and Medical Conference taking place in Athens from 2-8 June 2013.
Mrs Bloomfield held the dinner to emphasised the close bonds of friendship between Australians and Greeks and the importance of the two fields to bi-lateral relations.
“Justice, fairness and the rule of law are values that are fundamental to our democracy, but also to Australia’s social and economic prosperity,” Mr Bloomfield said in her speech.
“And access to justice is an essential element of the rule of law, and therefore of democracy,” she added.
She reinforced the Australian government’s commitment to maintaining high quality, safe and effective healthcare systems for the long-term well being of communities.
The Greek Minister of Health, Mr Andreas Lykourentzos, attended the event and also addressed participants on the issues of healthcare in Greece.
Along with the participants from the conference, the President of the State Council and former Prime Minister Mr Panayiotis Pikrammenos and Deputy President of the Supreme Court Mr Athanasios Koutroumanos joined the dinner.
