More than $10,000 in grants were awarded to five Victorian soccer clubs to help with registration costs, uniforms and equipment.
FFV’s Community Development Manager Nick Hatzoglou and Indigenous Engagement Officer Alexa Allan presented a cheque for $10,500 to Three Colours SC, White Stars SC, Nichols Point SC, Mildura City SC and Mildura United SC, all of which promote indigenous and migrant participation.
Mr Hatzoglou praised the initiative of the clubs in helping to make football more accessible to underrepresented communities.
“All five clubs showed a true desire to increase indigenous and migrant participation.
“The funding programs aim to allow underrepresented groups to access football within their community, giving them an opportunity they may find challenging otherwise.”
32 indigenous boys and girls as well as eight Afghani and Sudanese males make up a strong proportion of players in the five teams.
