German Finance Minister, Wolfgang Schäeuble, will visit Athens on July 18 in response to an invitation made by his Greek counterpart Yannis Stournaras.

The visit would focus on the extension to Greece of a programme designed by Germany and Spain for the financing of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), for fighting youth unemployment and possibly setting up a Greek investment bank.

A few days ago, the German chancellor Angella Merkel and her Minister of Finances Wolfgang Schäuble rejected the possibility of a new haircut of the Greek debts after the upcoming September German elections.

Mrs. Merkel, who was interviewed by the Märkische Oderzeitung and Südwest Presse newspapers explained that there is no possibility of a further haircut of the Greek debt. A further haircut would burden the other Eurozone partners with many more billions of euros.
