Marco Rojas faces a race to be fit for the start of the new Bundesliga season next month at Stuttgart after breaking a bone in his foot.

The 21-year-old New Zealand star, who has been dubbed the ‘Kiwi Messi’ and was voted the A-League’s player of the year last season, suffered the injury after scoring on his Stuttgart debut last week.

Rojas is expected to be out for four to six weeks.

Last season’s German Cup finalist Stuttgart opens its Bundesliga season at Mainz on 11 August.

Rojas left Melbourne Victory in April and has signed a contract with Stuttgart until 2017 having scored 15 goals in the A-League last season.
