Greece international Georgios Samaras says he is ready to sign a new contract with Celtic and to commit his long term future to the Scottish team.
Last season was a landmark for the 28-year-old at the club, as he led them on a memorable run in the UEFA Champions League, turning in a series of fine performances.
As a key member of Neil Lennon’s squad since his move from Manchester City five years ago, Samaras has been linked with moves away from the club in the past. He denied the speculations, when he said he will be staying in a club “where he feels well”.
“It was important to me to find an environment where I feel good because I’m away from my country, my family and friends.
“I’m not surprised how long I’ve been here. I feel great at this club and that means everything to a footballer,” Samaras said.
The former Herenveen man is in the final year of his contract at Parkhead and says he has a “great relationship” with manager Neil Lennon.
A key member of Greece’s Euro 2012 campaign and a regular in Fernando Santos’ sides, Samaras will be hoping for a successful season ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
But he is also looking beyond that point, towards possibly finishing his career in Scotland. “Celtic made a lot of sacrifices for me and I did for them also.
“I have a great relationship with the manager and, if he wants me, I want him as well.
“I’m still young at 28 and I can see myself here for a few more years. I’d never say no to a new contract, if they offer me something we can discuss it,” the Greek international said.
